Take Action: Tell Miami-Dade County Commissioners to protect Florida's Pine Rocklands

The Miami Wilds project is a 27-acre theme park that poses a threat to Miami’s pine rocklands, home to some of the rarest species in the world. It is set to be approved for construction as early as this week by Miami-Dade county commissioners. The project poses a threat to species like the Florida bonneted bat, Florida panther, Miami tiger beetle, hairstreak butterfly, and gopher tortoise, among dozens of other species.

The proposed development is bad not just for the environment but for Miami taxpayers as well, costing millions of dollars. This disastrous project threatens over 100 at-risk species whose habitat will be destroyed by greedy developers.

Dear Miami-Dade County Commissioners,

I am reaching out to express my opposition to the Miami Wilds theme park. Your vote will not only affect me but the community I call home. It will dramatically impact the future of our already fragile ecosystems here in South Florida.

Pine rocklands are among the most biodiverse and imperiled habitats on the planet. Over 100 at-risk species that are found nowhere else on Earth reside here. Many of the species are endemic meaning they cannot be found anywhere in the world. Building this theme park would be detrimental to their chances of survival.

The number one cause of extinct species is habitat loss. Without the remaining pine rocklands these species will face a heightened threat of extinction. The Miami Wilds project could all but ensure the erasure of animals like the Florida bonneted bat, Florida panther, gopher tortoise, and hairstreak butterfly.

I urge you to vote no on this environmentally disastrous plan. The fate of hundreds of rare and endangered species is in your hands.
