Tell Florida Legislators: Stop the Attack on Solar Power

As the 2022 legislative session is underway Florida’s clean, renewable energy advancements are at risk. HB 741/SB 1024 are bills that would limit access to affordable solar energy. FPL, the author of this bill, wants to prevent Floridians from affording clean energy by drastically increasing the price of rooftop solar for Florida consumers.

Every Floridian should be able to harness the power of the Sun and access clean affordable energy without having to pay exorbitant fees to massive energy corporations. Florida legislators need to understand solar energy generates tens of thousands of green jobs and generates millions in state revenue. This bill would not only harm individual Floridians and our environment but also jobs and our economy.

Send the letter below to your state representative and senator and urge them to oppose any efforts to pass this Anti-Energy Freedom Bill.

As one of your constituents, I am writing in strong opposition to the effort by some Florida lawmakers to pass the Anti-Energy Freedom Bill (HB 741 /SB 1024).

Limiting access to clean energy by making it unaffordable to Floridians will cost tens of thousands of jobs, increase pollution, and harm our environment. Florida Power & Light (FPL), the author of the bill, wants to increase profits by reducing the use of rooftop solar which would take money out of the pockets of Floridians.

The Anti-Energy Freedom Bill will do nothing to address rising energy prices and the serious climate crisis facing Florida. Instead, it will threaten our livelihoods and fragile ecosystem. Every Floridian should be able to access clean and affordable energy without unnecessary interference from big energy corporations like FPL.

Should this law pass it would force many of the businesses in the solar industry to file for bankruptcy. Small businesses make up a majority of the solar industry, which is an essential part of the economic landscape in Florida. FPL cannot continue to use their massive campaign contributions to influence the legislative process.

I urge you to stand with Floridians to support access to clean and affordable energy, to defeat HB 741/SB 1024, and strongly oppose any anti-energy freedom policies backed by corporations who put profit over people.
