Hold Florida Health Care Corporations Accountable

Florida health care corporations, such as Florida Blue and the Florida Hospital Association, donate millions to anti-abortion politicians in Florida who are stripping away our reproductive freedom despite widespread public support for abortion access.

The Floridians for Reproductive Freedom coalition has dubbed these health care corporations as Abortion Injustice Inc. Join us in urging them to STOP funding anti-abortion politicians working to roll back our rights in Florida.

The decision to get an abortion should be left to us as free individuals— not politicians, and certainly not the corporations claiming to care about health and wellness while bankrolling them.

It’s time for Florida Blue, United Health, and the Florida Hospital Association to stop lining the pockets of anti-abortion politicians and start actually listening to the Floridians they claim to serve. On July 1st, Governor DeSantis signed into law House Bill 5, an abortion ban that makes it illegal to end a pregnancy after 15 weeks, with no exceptions for rape, incest or human trafficking. This law is a shocking affront to the privacy and bodily autonomy of those seeking an abortion, but it is even more upsetting that it was enabled by political donations to anti-abortion lawmakers from companies and organizations like yours, who claim to be dedicated to providing safe access to quality health care services.

Florida Blue, United Health, and Florida Hospital Association joined other corporations in donating more than $1.7 million to the politicians who sponsored and cosponsored House Bill 5, and in doing so have actively undermined Floridians’ ability to make their own health care choices. As a Floridian who relies on the health care services like the ones provided by your companies, I am appalled at the support your companies have given to those intent on clawing back the basic human rights of Floridians. Floridians can make our own health care decisions, and we don’t need politicians OR corporations in the room with us to do so.

We are calling on your companies to live up to the standards it claims to set for itself and its employees and immediately stop supporting anti-abortion candidates working to rip basic human rights away from Floridians. The mental and physical health and well-being of millions in Florida and throughout the South is on the line.
