More than 200 anti-abortion, fake women’s health centers operate in Florida. Women facing unintended pregnancies are tricked into entering these fake clinics, thinking they are going to get real medical care and unbiased counseling. Instead, they get false or misleading information about what services are offered and are denied needed referrals for reproductive health care. They are shamed for considering abortion and are supplied misinformation about abortion and contraception. Staff and volunteers use tactics to delay a woman’s decision so that abortion becomes more expensive or out of reach. To confuse women even more, these fake clinics often locate themselves beside actual women’s health care providers and deceptively use words like “Choices” or “Women’s Care” in their names.
A new, ill-conceived Florida law, pushed through by anti-abortion legislators and signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott, attempts to validate fake clinics by funding them through a state contract with the Florida Department of Health (DOH).
Take action now and help us hold fake clinics accountable. Sign our petition to the DOH urging them to strictly regulate these fake clinics.
Petition To The Florida Department Of Health
We the undersigned urge you to strictly regulate fake clinics known as "crisis pregnancy centers." We urge you to enforce the Department of Health's contracts with these clinics and ensure they:
- provide services in a non-coercive manner
- do not include any religious content in service delivery
- provide current and accurate information
- provide references for any medical statements
- obtain background screenings for all paid staff and volunteers
Florida women seeking health care deserve nothing less than medically accurate information provided by qualified staff in a non-coercive environment.
