Two bills filed by Democrats would roll back Florida's 15-week abortion ban.

During a virtual press conference Monday, Sen. Lori Berman of Boca Raton said her bill is necessary after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

"What's happening right now in this country is nothing short of tyranny of the minority. We're being ruled by Right Wing extremist faction."

The "Reproductive Health Care Protections Act" would codify into state law the protections that Roe v. Wade no longer provide.

"Nothing is more repugnant than the state using its power to control the lives and futures of women. To strip women of their dignity to plan their own families is abuse."

Democrats contend that abortion is equal to women's health care, but Republicans say Florida's abortion law that passed last year is all about saving the lives of unborn babies.

It's unclear whether Berman's bill or its companion in the House will go anywhere during the Session that begins Tuesday, with Republicans in charge.
