Don't Let the Constitution Revision Commission Weaken Floridians' Privacy Rights

Rabidly anti-abortion activists have launched an all-out assault on the right to privacy in Florida. They’re trying to get the Republican-led Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) to put Proposal 22 on this November’s ballot. If passed, this dangerous proposal would dismantle our state constitution’s privacy clause that for decades has served as a crucial barrier against attacks on the right to safe and legal abortion.

Sign the petition and join Floridians across the state demanding that the CRC preserve the right to privacy by rejecting Proposal 22.

Petition To The Constitution Revision Commission

Dear Commissioners

We the undersigned urge the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) not to weaken privacy protections for Floridians.

Because Florida's Constitution contains an explicit right to privacy, the Florida Supreme Court has long held that it "embraces more privacy interests, and extends more protection...than does the Federal Constitution," which contains only an implicit right to privacy. We need those protections for our privacy rights now more than ever.

The Florida Supreme Court has consistently ruled that laws restricting a woman's right to decide whether to continue a pregnancy or have an abortion violate the explicit privacy clause of the Florida Constitution. CRC members should not attempt to take away this fundamental right from women. The Florida Supreme Court is vested with interpreting and applying the Florida Constitution, and it has spoken.

Regardless of your religious or ideological views on abortion, we demand you preserve our fundamental right to privacy in Florida.
