Tell DEP: No oil drilling in the eastern Everglades

Oil drilling has been proposed in the eastern Everglades, and we need your help to stop it. This permit, if approved, not only threatens Everglades restoration, but also local wildlife and south Florida’s drinking water. The application by Kanter Real Estate would allow for a five acre oil pad in southwest Broward County, with drilling to a depth of 11,800 feet, running around the clock for up to 80 days.

Sign our petition to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP): deny the proposal by Kanter Real Estate to allow exploratory oil drilling in the eastern Everglades. We’ll deliver your petitions directly to DEP where they will be entered in to the public record.

Petition To the Florida Department of Environmental Protection

We, the undersigned, urge you to deny the permit by Kanter Real Estate for oil drilling in southwest Broward County, in the eastern Everglades. This proposed oil drilling threatens not only Everglades restoration, but also local wildlife and south Florida’s drinking water.

As Floridians, we believe that further drilling in the Everglades is both dangerous and unnecessary. As taxpayers, we are already investing heavily in restoring the Everglades and further drilling can only undermine this effort. The boom and bust cycles of the domestic energy market should never take precedence over the preservation of critical natural resources.
