Sign The Petition: Ban Fracking In Florida

Florida's delicate ecology and vast underground aquifer system are in danger from oil and gas fracking, including a process known as acid fracking.

In 2014, the Hughes Co. of Texas was given a minor slap on the wrist by Gov. Scott's Department of Environmental Protection for secretly and illegally fracking on endangered Florida panther habitat in the heart of the western Everglades. Since then, cities and counties have been working to enact local bans on fracking.

Florida needs to take the next step and enact a statewide ban on fracking to protect the state we love. Add your voice to the voices of Floridians saying it's time to end fracking by signing the petition below.

Petition To The Florida Legislature

We the undersigned urge you to put a stop to the unsafe oil and gas extraction process known as fracking, including a new form of drilling happening in the Everglades known as acid fracking.

There are many environmental and public health concerns linked to fracking. More than 1,000 cases of water contamination have been documented near areas of gas drilling as well as sensory, respiratory, and neurological problems. Gas that is leaked during the fracking process, along with the numerous toxic chemicals that are used, creates air pollution that increases global warming and is a danger to human health.

The last thing Florida needs, with our delicate ecology and vast underground aquifer system, is oil and gas fracking.

We urge you to support legislation to ban fracking today.

    Friends,

Imagine a future where Florida’s soil and groundwater is contaminated, iconic endangered species like the Florida panther are lost forever and our drinking water is poisoned. Unfortunately it could happen – if we don’t put a stop to the unsafe oil and gas process known as fracking.

Sign the petition to Florida state lawmakers urging them to ban fracking in Florida.

The threat to Florida from fracking is especially worrisome as long as Gov. Rick Scott is in office. Scott has said publicly that he supports oil and gas drilling in the Everglades. Last month, he was slapped with an ethics complaint alleging a conflict of interest due to his investment in a company that is currently drilling near the Everglades.
