    Subject: It's a TRAP!
    Friends,

The Florida Legislature is meeting early this year and already we’re seeing more attacks on access to reproductive health care. House Bill 233 is up for a vote on Tuesday. This bill has nothing to do with protecting the health of women and everything to do with shutting down providers by placing unreasonable requirements on health care centers through what is called “targeted regulation of abortion providers,” or TRAP.

Join me and send a letter to members of the House Health Innovation Subcommittee and urge them to vote against House Bill 233: http://act.progressflorida.org/letter/hb233/?referring_akid=2312.127594.ZIJa6y&source=taf

This bill is an example of an attack on access to reproductive health care that we have seen has devastating effects in places like Texas. TRAP laws require health centers that provide abortion services to adhere to the same standards as facilities that perform complex surgical procedures even though it isn’t medically necessary. The fact is that abortion is already an extremely safe procedure, and there is no evidence that TRAP laws increase patient safety.

Here’s what we do know – the Texas TRAP law passed in 2013 has already forced at least 19 health centers to close, leaving a 400-mile stretch of Texas without a reproductive health care facility.

We don't need this kind of terrible legislation in Florida. What we need is for our elected representatives to protect women’s health by voting against HB 233. Take action now:

HB 233 would impose onerous regulations on health care centers that provide safe and legal abortions. This bill would require abortion facilities to comply with requirements that are intended for facilities that perform more invasive and risky procedures, and use higher levels of sedation than abortion requires. These laws have nothing to do with protecting women and everything to do with shutting down providers by placing unreasonable building requirements on health care centers.

Write legislators on the House Innovation Subcommittee, who will be taking up this bill soon. Feel free to customize the below letter to share a personal story or share your perspective on this issue.
